The Pride Of Portugal
Pride of Portugal — Morocco
A celebration of the Lusitano horse and Portuguese equestrian heritage on an international stage.
In 2026, Pride of Portugal, a production by Sussex Lusitanos and NPimenta, brought the essence of Portuguese equitation to Morocco, as part of the Nuits Équestres at the 17th Salon du Cheval d’El Jadida — one of the most prestigious equestrian events in Africa.
The production brought together ten Lusitano horses and ten Portuguese riders in a spectacular presentation of classical Portuguese riding, combining tradition, elegance, precision and the unmistakable character of the Lusitano horse.
The ten riders and horses:
Tomás Dias — Maestro LGF
Luís Brito Paes — Rum
Diogo Oliveira — Belmonte
David Gomes — Luan
Lara Carreira — Marialva
Nicole Silva — O-Nilo
João Barbosa — Qualificado Monte
João Bento — Romanov DR
João da Graça — Olimpo de Alcame
João Gonçalves — Hábil da Broa
The Pride of Portugal presentation brought Portuguese equestrian culture to the heart of El Jadida, creating a unique encounter between Portuguese and Moroccan equestrian traditions.
As the official photographer of the project, I documented the horses, riders, performances and the atmosphere surrounding Pride of Portugal — from the preparation behind the scenes to the spectacle itself.
A visual record of Portugal, its horses and its equestrian heritage beyond its borders.
